Valentine's Day

I never put much stock in Valentine's Day, and don't really get why people are so into it. When I was young, I had little "Valentine's Tea Parties" where I gathered some friends -always female, of course back then (these ended in Seventh grade) I didn't really have any male friends anyhow - and had music, and crafts, and we made food. They were big deals just 'cause of the tradition and of the fun I had in making things like cards and cookies and stuff for the day. Also, every year in school there were always these Valentine's things, and candy brought in for the whole class - I always hated these times of year, as I never got candy as an individual, and I never had anyone to give candy to; I made Valentine's day cards with mom but that was pretty much it; school got pretty awkward for me around that day, me the Forever Alone person. I only ever got candy 'cause people felt sorry for me. I was glad when the class got to old for it and it wasn't a tradition anymore, though then the Kisses and Hugs candy program came into place, where each set of four candy Kisses or Hugs were 25 cents and you could give as many as you wanted to other people. Again, I never got any except for from a teacher who gave some to all of her students. And I never remembered to bring change to get any for any of my friends (by this time it was Sophmore year and I had a lot of the NSC, though a few more trickled in later on) and so it was still awkward as everyone got their white paper bags of Kisses and showed off how many they got to everyone else. Since I only ever got them once, yeah.... Not a pleasant time. But also I always viewed Valentine's Day as something that was more of a social thing, though I didn't really feel that it should be. I feel Valentine's Day is pretty much the same as any other day, there is just more hype about this day. I will still give well-wishers a "Happy Valentine's Day" back, but it really isn't all that big of a deal to me, and most of the Valentine's Day stuff is cheesy and low quality. I do like the sale prices of chocolate after it, though :D Chocolate is good. Having a bf does not change my view on Valentine's Day, but since he puts a little more stock in it I suppose I may as well create something special for him. But again, I view Valentine's Day, if one takes it seriously, as something personal and not to be shared with the rest of the world. But I am not ashamed to say that I love my Mikey~
